Six Recommended Places to Stay

I often receive messages asking about great places to stay when taking a Timetrails tour and over the last two years I've featured some lovely places. Owing to the way these pages work some of my earlier recommendations have vanished into the deep distant past and you may have missed them. I am therefore bringing my favourite six recommendations together so you can see them all in one place.

If you simply need Bed and Breakfast accommodation, look at the
chambres d’hôtes or maison d’hôtes. For a self-catering holiday rental, look at the Gites

So, here goes (and they're in no particular order)

1) La Charbonniére Mohon

La Charbonniére Mohon - is a charming and comfortable house offering chambres d’hôtes (B&B) in countryside close to the village of Mohon. Set on the eastern edge of Lanouée forest in central Brittany, you'll be sure of a friendly welcome from your host, Cazzie.

La Charbonniére is very cosy, offering a range of twin and double, en-suite accommodation up to a maximum of ten guests.

Mohon is ideally placed for visits to the pretty little medieval town of Josselin or its larger neighbour Ploërmel. It's also a great base from which to join our Ménéac Markers Tour or the Locminé Loop Tour.

There's private parking, a garden with terrace, free wifi, and they are happy to accept guests with pets.

Rennes and Vannes are the nearest big cities at just under an hour away and the stunning coasts and beaches to the north and south are within easy reach.

You can find out more at www.lacharbonnieremohon.com/ or visit
their facebook page.

2) Ker Marie & Ker Jerome holiday gites

Your hosts, Sarah and Richard, have two lovely, two-bedroomed gites, located very close to the splendid medieval town of Dinan.

This is an ideal base for a family holiday, not too far from the cross-channel ferry port at St Malo and within easy reach of the famous beach resort of Dinard.

From here you can easily enjoy our tour of prehistoric sites on the beautiful Pink Granite coast, or take yourself on a day trip to the amazing Mont St Michel.

If you don't fancy traveling, there's always the garden, games room and the above-ground swimming pool which can be very welcome on a long, hot Brittany summer day, (believe me, summer 2022 was blisteringly hot!).

3) Mille Fleur Cottage  - holiday gite

Mille Fleurs Cottage is a delightful, British owned and run gite set in countryside just outside the village of Ménéac, in the heart of Brittany. It's the perfect location if you plan to enjoy our Ménéac Markers Tour.

Your hosts, Dave and Annie always extend a warm welcome to this property which has been recently refurbished and is perfect for longer term rentals.

The cottage is  set in a lawned, self contained garden with the joy of some cute and very friendly donkeys and goats nearby!

This 2/3 bed property has everything you need - it's comfortable, well maintained, bright and spacious with exposed original oak beams. For the colder seasons there is a comfortable lounge with a log burner.

There is a modern fitted kitchen, well equipped with fridge, freezer, cooker, washing machine and microwave. A downstairs cloakroom plus spacious hall leading out to the patio and garden area. Upstairs has a luxurious shower room next to two spacious double bedrooms with a spare bed on the mezzanine if needed.

For those moments when you are not out exploring the beautiful Breton countryside, there is a large flat screen TV with basic sky channels.

4) La Jacarandière - Maison d'Hotes

This is a beautifully restored house in the centre of the tiny village of Le Cambout, on the border of Côtes-d'Armor and Morbihan. It is the perfect base from which to enjoy a Timetrails Tour, or for visiting the nearby towns of Ploërmel, Josselin, Pontivy and Loudéac.

La Jacarandière offers comfortable bed & breakfast accommodation, run by a delightful french couple in a peaceful setting. You might particularly enjoy using the outdoor hot tub from where you can enjoy some spectacular night skies!

The owners also operate a small take-away pizza shop, offering their own delicious recipes during the evenings just in case should should get peckish!

 5) The Old Bakery holiday Gites

Located near Gomené these lovely gites (holiday cottages) are set in a private location amongst gorgeous gardens with a heated swimming pool, beautifully cared for by your host, Donna and her husband. They offer a range of accommodation for large and small parties.

The Old Bakery is ideally situated for guests who would like to enjoy our Ménéac Markers tour as it sits almost in the middle of the alignment of monuments we will be visiting. Two of our other tours are within 45 minutes of the gites.

6) La Ville de Mainguy - Gites and B&B

La Ville de Mainguy holds a special place in my heart as it was my home for nearly three months when my wife and I first moved to Brittany in 2020.

The owners, Richard and Lana, always extend a friendly welcome
(as will their two super-friendly border collies) to this lovely property set just outside the pretty little town of Josselin. It is a perfect location for visiting the whole of central Brittany and ideal for taking part in a Timetrails Tour.
