Feel the Mystery

Image
Brittany is famous all over the world for its multitude of ancient standing stones and burial chambers. Their true purpose has fascinated researchers and enthusiasts for hundreds, if not thousands of years. How and why were they built? Why were certain places selected for the building of monuments? How did these silent sentinels from the past relate to the land around them and the skies above them? On a Timetrails in Brittany tour you will visit some of the best examples of lesser-known monuments, discovering more about their origins and use. Together we will consider the rituals and ceremonies that may have been performed at each of them and we explore the practicalities of building such long-lasting features. You will find links to each of my tours from the menu on the left side of the screen (if viewing on a PC or laptop), or from the menu icon in the top left corner of a Smartphone screen. I you have any questions about my tour...

Timetrails on Youtube

Over the last year or so I've been filming lots of videos about a range of sites in Brittany. Most of the site are those I do not visit on my tours but I hope that future visitors to Brittany find them useful. Here's a link to my YouTube channel if you'd like to take a peek Timetrails in Brittany - YouTube

Do you own an archaeo-dog?

Image
An archaeo-dog is a dog with an owner who is fanatical about prehistoric sites and archaeology and I am frequently asked if dogs are welcome on my tours.   We all know that dogs are part of the family so, if you are booking a private party, well-behaved archaeo-dogs are very welcome.    If you are making a standard booking (ie NOT private) please check first if you wish to bring your dog along as other guests may object (or there may already be an archaeo-dog on the tour).

Welcome to Timetrails in Brittany

Hello, I'm Philip.  Welcome to TimeTrails in Brittany. I've been running TimeTrails in Brittany tours since 2021 and, with each year that passes, the tours are becoming more and more popular with English-speaking visitors from all over the world. Tours are also available in French by arrangement. I have had a passion for the archaeology of the Neolithic and Early Bronze Age since my childhood and I have finally been able to set up home in the heart of one of Europe's richest archaeological landscapes.TimeTrials in Brittany tours are about sharing just a few of these landscapes with you and helping you to look at them through the eyes of an archaeologist. Since starting time trails I've now increased the number of different tour itineraries to six and I'm always looking out for new and exciting tours to add.  To find out more about my tours, simply select each one from the navigation menu. You'll find it on the left hand side if you're reading this on a PC, M...

The very latest reviews

Here are a few reviews of my Pink Granite Coast and Locminé Loop tours. I send my thanks to everybody who has taken the time to get back to me with their feedback. I hope to see you all again one day. Jon from Bournemouth said:- “I recently took my family on a handful of Time Trails excursions in Brittany, and genuinely want to go back for more. The trails were very enjoyable, accessible and informative. Phil Dunn beautifully blends wit and knowledge into his walks and talks which bring the many landscapes and ancient stones to life. His style mixes story, fact and honest speculation in a way that seems to erode time. You feel as if you are witnessing the creation and use of these mysterious structures. Mystery though soon disappears and is replaced by an admiration for our ancestors skill and dedication. and simple awe of how and why they were placed and that they survive. Our two teenagers were totally captivated, and unleashed a range of questions, all of which were answered wit...
